Exploring England
Guides to Exploring England

About Us

Dear Fellow Travelers,

Allow us to introduce ourselves. I’m Trevor, a retired principal and former resident of England. I’m Linda, a retired teacher and enthusiastic traveler. Trevor takes care of the logistics of our enterprise while I write the guides and bounce ideas off my partner. We both love doing what these guides are all about - traveling to England, hiking, discovering history and doing so, independently. The result of our traveling experiences has led us to develop this series of guides that best tap into the cultural and historical richness of the English countryside.

Our first trip in 1985 has been followed by yearly excursions since 1994. All our trips have been 3-4 weeks in length and have covered most of the picturesque places in England. While we have traveled in Europe, we have returned many times to England for a variety of reasons. England is blessed with an abundance of hiking trails and long distance paths, historical sites and a pleasant climate that invites you to be outdoors even in the heat of summer. Since English is spoken, there is no barrier to communication which would exist in a country where you were unfamiliar with the language. We can mingle with the people who live there and not be intimidated with the task of negotiating in a foreign tongue.

The philosophy of our guides is to choose a specific area of England and locate yourself in a convenient gateway town or city there. While based in this location for a number of days, you explore it and the surrounding area on foot, by car or by bus. By focusing your attention, you are able to savor the landscape and history of this chosen part of England rather than spending your holiday negotiating the highways and spending holiday dollars on “Petrol”.

Our guides provide you with enough information to allow you to plan your holiday with a minimum of fuss and in a very cost effective way. We provide you with details of quality and affordable accommodation, information on what to see, side trips to take, tea rooms to visit and all with sufficient detail to allow you to organize your holiday effectively and within your price range while enjoying the level of comfort you would expect at home.

By traveling independently, you can enjoy your own time and space, save your holiday dollars by not paying premiums on pre-arranged tours and discover an England personalized by choices made by you which will make you want to return to discover more about this green and pleasant land.

Join us in discovering England Independently.
